Job Title: School Cook
Reports To: Center Director / Kitchen Manager
Job Summary:
The School Cook is responsible for preparing, cooking, and serving nutritious meals and snacks to children and staff in accordance with state licensing regulations, USDA Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP) guidelines, and the school’s nutritional standards. The Cook ensures meals are prepared safely, on time, and in a sanitary environment while maintaining a positive and professional atmosphere within the school.
Key Responsibilities:
Plan, prepare, and serve breakfast, lunch, and snacks following approved menus and portion guidelines.
Ensure compliance with CACFP, state, and local health department regulations.
Maintain a clean, organized, and safe kitchen environment at all times.
Follow proper food handling, storage, and sanitation practices.
Monitor food and supply inventory; submit orders to ensure adequate stock is available.
Accommodate food allergies and dietary restrictions with safe alternatives.
Complete daily, weekly, and monthly kitchen logs and reports (temperature checks, cleaning checklists, etc.).
Collaborate with staff to coordinate meal service times with classroom schedules.
Maintain positive relationships with children, staff, and families while supporting the school’s mission.
Participate in staff meetings and required training.
Qualifications:
High school diploma or GED required; culinary or nutrition background preferred.
Prior experience cooking in a childcare, school, or commercial kitchen setting preferred.
Knowledge of USDA/CACFP nutrition guidelines a plus.
Ability to prepare meals in large quantities while maintaining quality and safety.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Strong organizational and time-management skills.
Physically able to lift up to 50 pounds and stand for long periods.
Work Schedule:
Full-time
Monday through Friday, daytime hours (no late nights or weekends).
