The North Sioux City Community Library is a vital cultural and educational hub for our community. Serving residents of all ages, the library provides access to books, technology, lifelong learning opportunities, and a wide range of public programming throughout the year. With strong community engagement and consistent daily use, the library plays a key role in connecting residents, supporting learning, and enhancing quality of life in North Sioux City.

The City of North Sioux City is seeking a Full-Time Library Assistant to support daily library operations, assist patrons, and contribute to a welcoming, well-run public space.

Position Summary

The Library Assistant plays a key role in delivering excellent customer service, supporting circulation and library resources, and maintaining organized, inviting public spaces. This position assists with library programs and events, participates in evening closing procedures, and provides occasional Saturday coverage. Key Responsibilities

• Assist patrons with circulation services and general library inquiries
• Support use of library resources and provide basic technology assistance
• Maintain organized collections and welcoming public areas
• Assist with library programs, events, and community activities
• Perform evening closing procedures and facility checks (closing times vary, generally between 5:00–7:00 p.m.)
• Provide occasional Saturday morning coverage as needed

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required
• Post-secondary education or a bachelor’s degree encouraged, particularly in library science, education, communications, or a related field
• Customer service or public-facing experience preferred
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Comfortable using computers and learning new software systems
• Ability to work independently and follow established procedures
• Dependable, flexible, and detail-oriented
• Ability to pass a background check

Schedule & Compensation

• Full-time position
• Evening shifts required (closing responsibilities rotate based on library hours)
• Occasional Saturday morning shifts as needed
• Starting wage: $21.00 per hour
