Company Description Job Description The New York City Department of Correction (DOC) is an integral part of the City's evolving criminal justice system, participating in reform initiatives and strategies aimed to move the City towards a smaller jail system without compromising public safety. The DOC is responsible for maintaining a safe and secure environment for our employees, visitors, volunteers, and people in our custody. Importantly, safe jails enable DOC to provide people in custody with the tools and opportunities they need to successfully re-enter their communities. The DOC operates facilities and court commands across the five boroughs with more than 7,500 diverse professionals and knowledgeable experts. We are seeking a highly analytical and detail-oriented Data Scientist to help extract insights from large datasets and drive data-driven decision-making. The ideal candidate should have expertise in statistical analysis, machine learning, and data visualization, with a strong understanding of business applications. Key Responsibilities:

• Collect, clean, and preprocess large datasets for analysis.
• Develop predictive models and machine learning algorithms to solve business problems.
• Conduct statistical analysis and hypothesis testing to support decision-making.
• Visualize data and insights using tools like Tableau, Power BI, or Matplotlib.
• Collaborate with engineering and product teams to implement data-driven solutions.
• Optimize data pipelines and ETL processes for scalability and efficiency.
• Stay updated with industry trends and advancements in AI/ML technologies.
• Communicate findings and recommendations to stakeholders in a clear, actionable manner.

PREFERRED SKILLS

• -Bachelor's or Master's degree in Data Science, Computer Science, Mathematics, or a related field.
• -2+ years of experience in data science or analytics.
• Experience with Big Data tools such as Spark or Hadoop.
• Proficiency in Python or R for data analysis and machine learning.
• Experience with SQL and NoSQL databases.
• Strong understanding of machine learning techniques (e.g., regression, classification, clustering).
• Familiarity with cloud platforms like AWS, GCP, or Azure.
• Experience with deep learning frameworks like TensorFlow or PyTorch is a plus.
• Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work with unstructured data.
• Strong communication skills for presenting data-driven insights to non-technical stakeholders.

Good to have; -Knowledge of A/B testing and experimentation methods.
