**Responsibilities:**
A Standardized Patient (SP) is an individual carefully trained to portray the characteristics of a patient, family member, health care team member, etc., for the purpose of training and/or assessing health care students and professionals. SPs who use their own bodies as the teaching model for sensitive exams are specifically trained to teach, assess and provide feedback to learners about accurate sexual assault examination collection techniques. They also address the communication skills needed to provide a comfortable exam in a standardized manner, while using their bodies as teaching tools in a supportive, non-threatening environment. SPs are non-biased and are able provide an opportunity for health care students and providers to practice or refine communication and examination skills in a safe learning environment before utilizing these skills on actual patients. Standardized Patient III: Invasive Physical Exam, Invasive Transvaginal Ultrasound Examinations
JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Transvaginal Ultrasound Examination:
- Undergoes repetitive ultrasounds conducted by learners; Ultrasound wand to be vaginally inserted by the standardized patient;
- Maintains confidentiality of information related to cases, student behaviors and evaluations
Training:
- Completes standardized patient orientation, as well as ongoing training sessions. Trainings may include live, online and self-study components;
- Participates in group training and/or mentorship of newly hired standardized patients.
Communication:
- Provides educationally constructive verbal feedback as appropriate to learners;
- Receives feedback from the supervisor/trainer and incorporates it into future examination sessions;
- Demonstrates objectivity when interacting with and rating learners
Other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
High School graduation or the equivalent required. 6 months of work or volunteer experience required or equivalent combination of education and experience. Experience in theatre, a medical field or education preferred. Required knowledge, skills and abilities: Ability to understand and follow instructions; Ability to receive instruction and consistently simulate a case scenario in an accurate, reliable and professional manner; Strong communication skills, both written and spoken; Willing and able to work a varied, flexible schedule; Organization, reliability and punctuality. Fluency in more than one language preferred.
