Job Description

INVO is seeking passionate Physical Therapists for the Boston area. If you would like the opportunity to work in a school based program, we would love to talk to you! The Physical Therapist (PT) is responsible for providing specialized services to students with physical disabilities or impairments that affect their ability to participate fully in school activities. The PT works to improve students' mobility, strength, coordination, and overall physical function to enhance their academic and social participation. This role involves conducting assessments, developing individualized treatment plans, collaborating with educators and families, and contributing to a supportive and inclusive school environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Student Assessment and Evaluation:
  • Conduct comprehensive evaluations to assess students' gross motor skills, mobility, posture, balance, and overall physical functioning.
  • Identify students' physical challenges and strengths through standardized assessments, observations, and consultations with teachers, parents, and other professionals.
  • Develop detailed reports outlining assessment findings and recommendations for intervention.
  1. Individualized Treatment Planning:
  • Develop individualized treatment plans and goals based on each student's unique physical needs.
  • Provide direct physical therapy services to students, including exercises, activities, and interventions designed to improve physical function and mobility.
  • Adapt and modify physical activities and school environments to ensure students can participate fully and safely in all aspects of their education.
  • Implement strategies and interventions that promote students' independence and participation in academic and extracurricular activities.
  1. Collaboration and Consultation:
  • Collaborate with teachers, special education staff, occupational therapists, speech-language pathologists, and other professionals to integrate physical therapy goals into students' educational programs.
  • Provide consultation and training to teachers and support staff on strategies to support students' physical needs in the classroom.
  • Work closely with families to share progress, strategies, and resources that can be used at home and in the community.
  1. Documentation and Compliance:
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of student evaluations, treatment plans, progress notes, and service delivery in compliance with federal, state, and district regulations.
  • Participate in the development and review of Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) and 504 Plans, ensuring that physical therapy goals are aligned with educational outcomes.
  • Prepare and submit required documentation and reports in a timely manner.
  1. Professional Development and Advocacy:
  • Stay informed about the latest research, best practices, and innovations in pediatric physical therapy and special education.
  • Participate in ongoing professional development opportunities to enhance skills and knowledge.
  • Advocate for students' physical needs within the school setting, ensuring that appropriate accommodations and supports are provided.
  1. School and Community Engagement:
  • Participate in school-based teams, including Student Support Teams (SST) and IEP meetings, to provide input on student progress and needs.
  • Engage in outreach to community resources and agencies to support students and families.
  • Contribute to the development of school-wide initiatives that promote inclusive practices and support student well-being.

Qualifications:

  • Education: Master’s or Doctoral degree in Physical Therapy from an accredited program required.
  • Certification/Licensure:
    • Current licensure as a Physical Therapist in the state of Massachusetts.
    • Certification by the American Board of Physical Therapy Specialties (ABPTS) in pediatrics is preferred.
  • Experience: Previous experience working with children or in a school setting is highly preferred.
  • Skills:
    • Strong knowledge of pediatric physical therapy practices, including gross motor development, mobility training, and adaptive strategies.
    • Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
    • Ability to develop and implement individualized therapy plans.
    • Proficiency in using assessment tools and documentation systems.
    • Commitment to promoting inclusive education and supporting diverse learners.

Physical Demands:

  • Ability to stand, walk, and engage with students for extended periods.
  • Ability to lift and carry therapy materials and equipment.
  • Ability to perform physical activities that may include bending, kneeling, and assisting students with mobility.

Working Conditions:

  • Work is performed in a school setting, including classrooms, therapy rooms, and other school facilities.
  • The role may involve working with students who have a wide range of physical abilities and challenges.
