Pastoral Vacancy Announcement

The Congregation of the Metropolitan Missionary Baptist Church of Jennings, Missouri is prayerfully seeking candidates to apply for the position of Pastor. The Metropolitan Missionary Baptist Church is a historic church of 106 years old, rich in family connections, community values, and the utmost trust and faith in God. The church is self-governing and a member of the Berean Missionary Baptist Church Association and the Missionary Baptist State Convention of Missouri. We seek an exceptional and spiritually grounded Pastor to provide dynamic leadership, leading with vision, compassion, and a deep commitment to biblical teachings. This role requires a visionary leader who can inspire growth, foster a vibrant community, and create an environment that encourages spiritual transformation.

Job Summary: The Pastor is accountable, first and foremost, to God and His Word. The Pastor is the spiritual leader of the church and will lead the congregation.

Duties and Responsibilities: As Pastor, you are responsible to the Lord and the congregation to proclaim the Gospel of Jesus Christ and have the primary responsibilities of preaching and teaching the Word of God. The Pastor will engage in Pastoral care ministries and provide administrative leadership in all areas of the church. The Pastor is leader of pastoral ministries in the church and as such works with the Deacons and church staff to lead the church in the achievement of its mission. The Pastor holds the responsibility of feeding the flock, leading the flock, and protecting the flock, while embracing a high personal standard reflective of the values of Christ.

1. Proclaim the Word of God in a regular pulpit ministry.

a. Maintain a vital and wholesome personal relationship with the Lord through prayer and daily Bible study.

b. Plan and conduct worship services, developing sermons and bible study, funerals, Sunday school, weddings, baptism, ordinations, and other similar services.

2. Provide leadership and vision to help guide the direction of MMBC .

a. Support youth development and spiritual growth.

b. Provide spiritual instruction and strategic leadership to members, staff, and ministries of the church.

c. Lead the congregation in effective ministry programs.

3. Oversee pastoral staff and provide direction and proper instruction for church programs.

a. Work with the Deacons, Board of Trustees, church officers, and committees/auxiliaries as they perform their assigned responsibilities.

b. Work with various standing and special committees in accomplishing their perspective duties.

4. In collaboration with the deacons, facilitate connecting with members, grieving members, prospective members, nursing home facilities, and hospitals.

a. Proven ability to counsel individuals/families with personal/spiritual challenges, and willing to seek self-counsel when needed.

b. Motivate and equip, and nurture the people of the church through example, preaching and teaching God’s Word and spiritual counseling.

5. Adhere to the Church Bylaws and policies and procedures adopted by the church.

6. Demonstrate financial awareness and its importance as to not bring reproach upon the Church. Exhibit the ability to manage self-finances with integrity.

7. Committed to continuing education (theological studies) personal development, licensed and ordained, with five (5) years in Biblical Christian Ministry.

8. Cooperate with local association, state convention, and National Baptist Convention leadership in matters of mutual interest and concerns.

9. Oversee, along with the Deacons, all church discipline matters and the management of conflict issues in the church.

a. Seek to reconcile relationships and promote unity within the church.

10.Maintain healthy boundaries in time management, accountability, and personal spiritual growth.

11. Proven extraordinary love for people and the fellowship of local community churches.

• Must have analytical skills, a self-starter, and exhibit good leadership.

• Must be available evenings, and weekends and some daytime hours for programs and church-related activities. Able to commit as full-time Pastor.

• Willing to undergo a background check, and credit screening in accordance with local/out of state law and credit monitoring services.

• Capacity to support educational development and spiritual growth of members including youth.

• A valid driver’s license and reliable transportation

Education and Referrals:

• Preferred degree in theology, religious studies, liberal arts from an accredited College or University, or a certification from an accredited program of theological studies.

• Licensed and ordained preacher of the gospel

• Five years of biblical Christian ministry.
