Primary Purpose: The primary purpose of this position is to create physical representations or prototypes of objects, structures, or ideas, using a variety of materials, tools, and techniques. This role is crucial in visualizing, testing, and communicating new ideas, and assists in the development process.
The Model Maker position is responsible for supporting projects where physical representation is needed. The position may use materials such as wood, plastic, clay, or metal to construct the model, employing modeling techniques such as sculpting, 3D printing, and CNC machining. This position is responsible for paying close attention to detail, ensuring that the models accurately depict the desired scale, proportions, and functionality. For VELUX, these models will include skylights, tubular daylight devices, domes and accessory products or components thereof.
Primary Responsibilities: - Construct detailed physical models based on design specifications, blueprints, or concept drawings.
- Employ a range of techniques such as sculpting, woodworking, metal working, 3D printing, and CNC machining to fabricate models.
- Ensure models accurately represent the desired scale, proportions, and features.
- Select appropriate materials and methods for model construction, considering durability, aesthetics, and cost.
- Collaborate with designers, engineers, and architects to refine models and make necessary adjustments.
- Update, maintain and repair model-making equipment and tools as needed.
- Stay updated with the latest model-making technologies and techniques.
Hourly Pay Range: $30.40 - $38.02 compensation based on the skills and experience of the candidate
Standard Working Hours: 8:00 am - 4:30 pm Monday - Friday
Qualifications: - Associate or Bachelor's degree in Technical Education, Industrial Design, Engineering, Architecture, Model Making or a related field is preferred.
- Proven experience in model making, with a portfolio showcasing previous work.
- Strong understanding of material properties and manufacturing processes for wood, metal and plastics.
- Proficiency in CAD software and familiarity with CNC machinery and 3D printing technology.
- SolidWorks experience is preferred
- Machining, forming, and finishing experience is required
- Excellent manual dexterity and attention to detail.
- Ability to interpret complex designs, technical drawings, sketch concepts.
- Good communication and problem-solving skills.
- Must have good organizational skills
- Must present a positive and professional appearance and image
- Must be an independent self starter who is capable of functioning in a team environment
- Must be able to physically lift and carry products for setup, testing, or display
- Ability to perform the essential functions assigned to the position.
