Department Summary


The Center for Learning Experimentation, Application, and Research (CLEAR) supports the University's goals of providing the best undergraduate educational experience in Texas and providing a superior graduate education by working closely with faculty to maximize their teaching effectiveness regardless of the mode of instructional delivery. We assist faculty in the design and delivery of courses as well as with the measurement of learning at the class, department, and college level. We serve as the liaison for various administrative and technical support functions, thereby saving faculty's time, talent, and creative energies for their students. We provide leadership in the development of policies and the exploration of innovative tools and techniques that promote teaching excellence.

CLEAR supports the UNT teaching community through workshops, seminars, conferences, individual consultations, production services, and the resources available on the CLEAR website with an emphasis on aligning theory and practice for the roles required of university instructors in lecture halls, seminar rooms, virtual classrooms, and labs across all disciplines.


Position Overview


The primary responsibility of the position is to provide professional consultation, assistance, and support to university faculty who design, develop, and deliver online courses. Duties include, but are not limited to: Managing online course development; Communicating regularly with instructors to guide them through the process of online course development; Maintaining knowledge of instructional design as well as best practices in the delivery of online instruction; Demonstrating skill in managing project tasks and meeting deadlines; and Demonstrating mastery of a variety of instructional technologies.


Minimum Qualifications


Master's Degree in Instructional Design or related field and three years' of related experience; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.


Knowledge, Skills and Abilities


Working knowledge of learning and instructional design theories. Working knowledge of college level courseware and ability to apply that understanding to course development. Ability to design, develop, and implement instructional multimedia products. Demonstrated skill in application of current technologies (desktop applications, internet, multimedia). Ability to apply proficient writing skills to author courseware. Knowledge of Fair Use and copyright issues that apply to online course delivery.


Preferred Qualifications


The preferred candidate will possess the following additional qualifications: Experience designing and/or delivering online courses at the university level. Experience working with university faculty. Experience with Canvas. Experience with Coursera.


Required License/Registration/Certifications

Job Duties:

  • Provides professional consultation, assistance and support to university faculty who design, develop, and deliver online courses. Including but not limited to: Course Reviews, New Course Development, and Course Redesign.
  • Participates in and follows procedures for the management of online course design and development.
  • Is timely and professional in responding to faculty requests for course development consultations and/or meeting with online course instructors during course development.
  • Demonstrates a high level of skill in time and task management; and meeting course development deadlines.
  • Actively maintains (ongoing) current knowledge and understanding of instructional design. Including the Quality Matters rubric.
  • Actively engages (ongoing) in mastery of best practices in online course delivery
  • Actively engages (ongoing) in mastery of current, UNT supported, educational technologies.
  • Responsibility to exercise strong interpersonal skills and be a good team player through effective collaboration with people in (and outside of) the team to successfully reach established targets;
  • Actively participates (ongoing) in team meetings, both across DSI CLEAR and within the IDC unit.
