Overview

General Manager (GM) role at Ulta Beauty. The GM leads a single retail store (including the salon) to deliver top-line sales growth, manage a high-performing team, and ensure alignment with Ulta Beautys mission, vision, and values.

Principal duties & responsibilities

(*Essential Job Functions*) The GM demonstrates Ulta Beautys mission, vision, and values and performs the following duties:

  • Promote a culture of accountability to meet or exceed store goals related to retail and service sales, guest loyalty (including credit), payroll, omni-channel, and retail shrink.
  • Drive profitability through operational excellence, top-line sales growth, and expense control.
  • Leverage store forecast and payroll budgets to support scheduling, maximize productivity, achieve sales and payroll goals, and complete workload on time within budget.
  • Address issues identified by financial and operational reporting, store visits, and audits to achieve store goals and drive profitability.
  • Perform makeup applications, skincare analysis, and product demonstrations with guests to drive sales and guest service experience.
  • Stay informed on industry trends, products, and services and be knowledgeable about ingredients and benefits to better serve guests.
  • Maintain prompt, regular attendance as the GM and ensure accountability for store associates according to Ulta Beauty attendance policy.

People

  • Attract, hire, and retain a diverse team; address staffing needs and openings efficiently.
  • In partnership with the DM and People Success, address policy violations with appropriate corrective action.
  • Build a highly engaged team that embodies the Ulta Beauty brand through collaboration and open communication.
  • Create an inclusive environment that encourages growth and engagement of associates.
  • Lead development of managers and associates, including training, coaching, performance reviews, succession planning, and development plans to drive sales performance.
  • Participate in ongoing training to enable continuous professional development and drive sales performance.
  • Model a culture of open communication by sharing enterprise strategy and aligning goals with store objectives.
  • Promote teamwork and provide clear direction with the management team.
  • Execute the Guest Engagement Leader program through ownership, coaching, and leading a helpful guest experience to drive APG metrics.

Process

  • Know and enforce Ulta Beautys policies, procedures, and standards; adhere to dress code.
  • Use scheduling and task management tools to schedule the right associates, prioritize workload, and ensure policy compliance.
  • Protect assets and minimize loss through inventory control, cash management, safety, and loss prevention.
  • Execute day-to-day inventory control processes and theft reporting as necessary.
  • Support continuous improvement by adopting company initiatives and technology; communicate expectations and ensure task execution.
  • Use company programs and resources to drive store improvements and regularly communicate business trends and opportunities to field leadership.

Job qualifications

Education
  • Bachelors degree preferred
Experience
  • 3-5+ years in fast-paced retail management or relevant work
  • Financial management: driving top-line sales, interpreting reporting data, managing payroll budgets, controlling expenses
  • Retail management: inventory monitoring, operational excellence, service culture, merchandising execution
  • Leadership: attracting, developing, motivating talent; adapting to change; building collaborative relationships
Skills
  • Proficient with basic technology (POS, MS Office, Apple devices)
  • Excellent written and verbal communication
  • Strong collaboration, interpersonal, and organizational skills
  • Ability to work under pressure, exercise good judgment, and be adaptable
Special position requirements
  • Full-time schedule including days, evenings, weekends, and holidays
  • Available to close the store at least once per week
  • Attend corporate meetings and travel as needed
  • Maintain valid identification for travel
Working conditions
  • Frequent use of computer and phone; mobility throughout the store
  • Frequent bending, pushing, reaching, twisting
  • Frequent lifting up to 25 lbs; continuous walking and manual tasks

The pay range for this position is $42.00 - $58.00 per hour, with eligibility for additional compensation per the company bonus plan. Full-time associates are eligible for health, dental, vision, life, and disability benefits; part-time associates are eligible for dental, vision, life, and disability benefits.
