Overview General Manager (GM) role at Ulta Beauty. The GM leads a store (including the salon) to deliver top-line sales growth through performance, people, and process. This position requires passion for process excellence, a drive for results, and the ability to lead, influence, and develop the team. Principal Duties & Responsibilities Promote a culture of accountability to meet or exceed goals related to retail and service sales, guest loyalty (including credit), payroll, omni-channel, and retail shrink as set by Ulta Beauty for the GM’s store. Drive profitability through operational excellence, top-line sales growth, and expense control. Leverage store forecast and payroll budgets to support scheduling, maximize productivity, meet sales and payroll goals, and complete workload on time within budget. Address issues identified by financial and operational reporting, store visits, and audits to achieve store goals and drive profitability. Perform makeup applications, skincare analysis, and product demonstrations to drive sales and guest service. Stay informed on industry trends, products, and services; be knowledgeable about ingredients and benefits to better serve guests. Maintain prompt attendance and hold associates accountable to Ulta Beauty attendance policy. People Attract, hire, and retain a diverse team; address staffing needs and open positions. Address policy violations with appropriate corrective action in line with Ulta Beauty’s policies. Build a highly engaged team through collaboration, open communication, and prioritization of work. Create an inclusive environment that encourages growth and engagement of associates. Lead development including training, feedback, coaching, performance reviews, succession planning, and development plans to drive sales performance. Participate in ongoing training to enable professional development and drive sales performance. Model open communication by sharing enterprise strategy and aligning goals with store objectives. Promote teamwork by working with the management team to set priorities and provide direction. Execute the Guest Engagement Leader program through leadership and guest experience to drive APG metrics. Process Know and ensure compliance with Ulta Beauty policies, procedures, and standards. Adhere to and enforce Ulta Beauty’s dress code. Use scheduling tools to assign the right associates in the right places at the right times to provide an exceptional guest experience, reduce loss, and execute directives. Use task management tools to prioritize store workload and ensure policy compliance. Protect company assets and minimize loss by meeting store standards and operating procedures (safety, inventory control, cash management, loss prevention). Conduct day-to-day inventory control and theft reporting as needed. Support continuous improvement by adopting company initiatives and technology, communicating expectations, and ensuring task execution. Utilize company programs and resources to drive store improvements. Regularly communicate with field leadership on trends, opportunities, challenges, merchandise needs, and the competitive landscape. Job Qualifications Education Bachelor’s degree is preferred Experience 3-5+ years of fast-paced retail management or other relevant work experience Financial management: driving top-line sales, interpreting reporting data, managing payroll budgets, and controlling expenses Retail management: monitoring inventory levels, achieving operational excellence, driving service culture, and executing merchandising directives Leadership: attracting, developing, and motivating top talent; adapting to change; building collaborative relationships; leading and influencing teams Skills Proficient with basic technology (POS, Microsoft Office, Apple devices) Excellent written and verbal communication Strong collaboration and interpersonal skills Strong organizational skills to manage multiple tasks Ability to handle pressure, exercise good judgment in ambiguous situations, and be flexible/adaptable Special Position Requirements Full-time schedule including days, evenings, weekends, and holidays Available to close the store at least once per week Attend corporate meetings and conferences, including overnight stays and interstate travel Maintain valid identification for airline travel Working Conditions Frequent use of computer and related devices Continuous mobility throughout the store Frequent bending, pushing, reaching, and twisting Frequent lifting up to 25 lbs Continuous walking and movement during shift Note: If an associate has a disability that prevents performing an essential function, the company will determine reasonable accommodations as required by law. The pay range for this position is 83,200.00 - 112,320.00 per year, with eligibility for additional compensation under the company bonus plan.
