Overview General Manager (GM) role at Ulta Beauty. The GM leads a store, including the salon, and develops a high-performing team to deliver top-line sales growth consistent with Ulta Beauty’s mission, vision, and values. General Summary & Scope The General Manager is responsible for leading through Ulta Beauty’s mission, vision, and values to develop a high-performing team that delivers store sales growth. The GM leads a team of managers and is accountable for all aspects of managing a single retail store, inclusive of the salon. This leader focuses on performance (sales, service, and expense control), people (talent acquisition, training, and development), and process (SOPs and compliance). Strong focus on process excellence, results, and the ability to lead, influence, and develop the team. Principal Duties & Responsibilities Essential Job Functions Promote a culture of accountability to meet or exceed Ulta Beauty’s goals related to retail and service sales, guest loyalty (including credit), payroll, omni-channel, and retail shrink as set for the GM’s store. Drive profitability through operational excellence, top-line sales growth, and expense control. Leverage store forecast and payroll budgets to support scheduling needs, maximize productivity, achieve sales and payroll goals, and complete workloads on time within the budget. Address issues identified by financial and operational reporting, store visits, and audit results to achieve store goals and profitability. Perform makeup applications, skincare analysis, and product demonstrations to drive sales and guest service experience. Stay informed about new and existing industry trends, products, and services to better serve guests. Maintain prompt, regular attendance as the GM and hold all store associates accountable to Ulta Beauty attendance policy. People Attract, hire, and retain a diverse team and address staffing needs and openings. Address policy violations with appropriate corrective action in accordance with Ulta Beauty policies. Build a highly engaged team that embodies the Ulta Beauty brand through collaboration and communication. Create an inclusive environment that encourages growth and engagement of associates. Lead development of managers and associates, including training, feedback, performance reviews, and succession planning. Participate in ongoing training to enable continuous development and drive sales performance. Model open communication by sharing enterprise strategy and aligning goals with store objectives. Promote teamwork by guiding the management team and setting clear priorities. Execute the Guest Engagement Leader program to drive business results across APG metrics. Process Be knowledgeable of and ensure compliance with Ulta Beauty’s policies, procedures, and standards. Adhere to and enforce Ulta Beauty’s dress code. Use scheduling and task management tools to deploy the right associates at the right times and priorities. Protect company assets and minimize loss by meeting store standards in safety, inventory, cash management, and loss prevention. Execute day-to-day inventory control processes and theft reporting as necessary. Support continuous improvement by adopting company initiatives and technology and communicating expectations. Regularly communicate with field leadership on trends, opportunities, and challenges. Job Qualification Education Bachelor’s degree is preferred Experience 3-5+ years of fast-paced retail management or relevant experience Financial management: driving top-line sales, interpreting reports, managing payroll budgets, and controlling expenses Retail management: inventory monitoring, operational excellence, service culture, and merchandising execution Leadership: attracting, developing, and motivating talent; adapting to change; building collaborative relationships Skills Proficient with basic technology (POS, Microsoft Office, Apple devices) Excellent written and verbal communication Strong collaboration and interpersonal skills Strong organizational skills to manage multiple tasks Ability to work under pressure and adapt to change Special Position Requirements Full-time schedule including days, evenings, weekends, and holidays Must be available to close the store at least once per week Attend corporate meetings and conferences, including overnight stays and interstate travel Maintain valid identification for airline travel Working Conditions Frequent computer use and mobility throughout the store Frequent bending, pushing, reaching, twisting Frequent lifting up to 25 lbs Continuous walking and handling of objects If an associate cannot perform an essential function, the company will engage in the interactive process to determine reasonable accommodations.
