Overview The Bus Fleet Mechanic is responsible for the inspection, preventive maintenance, and repair of a small fleet of shuttle buses (40-passenger capacity) and company vehicles. This role ensures vehicles remain safe, reliable, and compliant with Department of Transportation (DOT) standards and all company requirements. Frontline Pay Transparency/Benefits Pay: $23-25 an hour. The pay listed is the hourly range or the hourly rate for this position. For information about ABM’s benefits, visit ABM ABM 2025 Staff & Management Benefits Information Key Responsibilities Preventive Maintenance (PM) Conduct scheduled inspections and services on buses and fleet vehicles. Perform oil and filter changes, lubrication, tire services, and brake inspections. Inspect belts, hoses, batteries, exhaust systems, and HVAC systems. Document all PM tasks and ensure compliance with maintenance schedules. Diagnostics & Repairs Diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems. Service and repair engines, transmissions, steering, suspension, and braking systems. Perform road tests following major repairs to confirm safety and performance. DOT & Safety Compliance Conduct DOT-required inspections and maintain proper documentation. Ensure all vehicles meet federal, state, and local safety regulations. Keep maintenance logs and inspection reports current for audits and reviews. General Duties Respond to roadside assistance calls and perform emergency repairs. Maintain a clean, safe, and organized shop area. Manage parts requests and assist with inventory control. Collaborate with drivers and supervisors to address reported vehicle concerns. Qualifications Education & Experience High school diploma or GED; vocational/technical training preferred. 3+ years’ experience maintaining passenger buses, trucks, or similar fleet vehicles. ASE Certifications preferred but not required. CDL with passenger endorsement (preferred or ability to obtain). Skills & Requirements Strong knowledge of diesel and gasoline engines, electrical systems, and hydraulics. Ability to read and interpret manuals, wiring diagrams, and diagnostic codes. Must provide own tools (company provides specialty equipment). Ability to lift up to 75 lbs and work in both shop and roadside conditions. Work Environment & Schedule Shop-based role with occasional outdoor/roadside work. Standard day-shift schedule, with the possibility of working one weekend day as needed.
